To our community

Thank you for a great year. I could go on and on and on and on and on about what I want to say in this letter to you. I want to make this stakeholder letter more interesting than most. And that is why, I will not only talk about the great things in the year, but the things we can improve upon and our intentions moving forward. We want to lead with love, and we’re learning what that means everyday.

Impact on Community

Partnering with The Carl Maxey Center

We developed a partnership with The Carl Maxey Center in 2020 to support their vision, “for the Spokane region’s Black community to be a model for building generational wealth, educational excellence, justice and cultural vibrancy.” We asked The Carl Maxey Center what they needed most. When they said capacity is the biggest challenge, we offered to hire, manage, and pay for a part-time employee.

Anesu Mujenge started supporting The Carl Maxey Center in early 2021. In late 2021 The Carl Maxey had Anesu  support The Way To Justice, another Black-led organization in Spokane and he continued in that role through June 2022. We hired a second resource to support The Carl Maxey Center and fill the gap left by Anesu in his transition to The Way to Justice.

In 2022, our support equated to over $18,000 in payroll related expenses and a deepened connection between our organizations. Check out Anesu’s blog to learn more about the partnership.

Impact on Environment

Reaching Net Zero

In 2022, we became Net Zero, reducing and offsetting our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. As a small service-based company, we do not have a large environmental footprint. Achieving Net Zero was easy, especially thanks to the SME Climate HUB and EPA small business calculator to help with the carbon calculations. We moved our office to a building with almost entirely renewable energy, including on-site solar, and purchased offsets through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.

In addition to addressing our carbon impact, we sponsored a local non-profit focused on land conservation, the Inland NW Land Conservancy, to be an approved Environmental Partner of 1% for the Planet, connecting them with more donors and opportunities to amplify their impact. We’ll continue exploring the value-added ways that we can help environmental non-profits increase their funding and positive impact.

Impact on People

Providing health, dental, and vision benefits!

Measure Meant now covers 100% of premiums for health, dental, and vision benefits for employees! This was a huge step and an exciting way to invest in our small but mighty team. We’ve worked with many companies on evaluating their benefits packages for the B Corp Model. It felt great to implement health care of our own. And we know it will help build our workplace culture, contribute to the longevity of our team, and be an important piece of the life-work balance we seek. Read more on that in our blog on Building a Better Business – Workers.

We feel good knowing that we are supporting our people as full time employees, and adding benefits is a big step in increasing that support.
